U.S. riders grabbed four medals at Masters ’Cross Worlds
by USA Cycling

January 30, 2010
On January 23, masters ‘cross enthusiasts converged on Mol, Belgium to duke it out in the first world championship event of the 2010 season - the UCI Masters Cyclo-cross World Championships. U.S. riders grabbed six top-10 finishes in Mol, four of which were podium places.

In the women’s pre-1961 category, two Americans made the podium. Marilyn Ruseckas (Waitsfield, Vt.) rode her way into a rainbow jersey while fellow American Lillian Pfluke (Wilmington, Del.) grabbed the bronze medal.

A silver medal for the U.S. came compliments of Kevin Hines (East Wareham, Mass.) who finished a mere two seconds off the winning pace in the men’s 1956-1960 event. In the men’s 1961-1965 event, Jonny Bold (Marston Mills, Mass.) made the bronze medal effort, just nine seconds off pace.

Also scoring top-ten finishes in Belgium were Antonia Leal (Waukesha, Wis.) and Teresa Jarzemkoski (Shawnee, Kan.) with the fifth- and 10th-place efforts in the women’s 1961-1970 contest.
